The present article is intended to introduce the formation of typical extended family in Tianjin and their residential style based on the booklet mentioned above. The ancestor of the Shi Family came to Yangliuqing village from Shandong province in mid 18th century. The family was engaged in ship transportation along the canals. Their wealth was formed by transportation business and later by millet sales and poneshops. The family lived in Siheyuan style residence. The head of the family decided to divide family wealth to his four sons in mid 19th century while he was still alive.
